Well I seem to be the proud owner of one of these after bagging a bargain on the classifieds. Mine's the one with the Tektro Lyra calipers and the Alfine 8/Versa levers.
The brakes seem a bit spongy but that's probably due to a road lever pulling a caliper designed for a vee brake pull.
Anybody got one? Any feedback please?
The Lyra caliper is designed for road brake lever pull so that's not what's causing it.
More likely is that that's just the way they feel (I have no experience of the Lyra in use), or that the cables are cheap/there's too much outer being used.
Playing with pad clearance/how much the actuation arm moves has quite an effect on the way a disc caliper feels due to the slightly varying cable pull as you move through the lever stroke. Have a play around!
As CP says, get the calliper set up so that the pads are as close as possible to the disc. They'll then be good enough to outstrip the available grip from the tyres. The bike works surprisingly well off road.
Righty ho, Spent the morning setting the new boik up and all seems well. I'll have a go with the brakes having set them up as suggested. They were nearly as much faff as Juicy's!
Question for those that have one; what's the biggest tyre you can get in with mudguards? I was hoping to use a pair of 35mm Marathon XR's I had lying around but no way José... Looks like max 28 or 32 with standard Marathons or similar?
