Think I'm just about decided on getting a Datum
Very much doubt this will ever see more than the odd stretch of gravel, so the 'road bike but it takes bigger rubber' approach seems spot on for me
Before I commit, any experiences good or bad?
Also in a bit of a quandary re the sizing, do they ride as big as the geometry suggests? I fit a 53cm, but that would put me on an XS! Really? Or do I just need to get over the existential dilemma of riding a dwarfs bike (I'm a medium in every mtb I've had)
trying one for size might be an issue BTW, hence the question
Had a Datum 10 since January and absolutely loving it! I've done mainly road miles on mine but have done a few gravel tracks and fire roads, even did a full lap of the blue at llandegla! It's a great bike, comfy, fast and while it is a bit more expensive than some rivals I think it's worth it, the quality ride of the frame shines through much more than some spangly components.
Size wise Genesis changed their sizing for this year, going from offering 6 frame sizes to 5. I usually ride a 56cm frame so went for a medium Datum, so effectively went "down" a size from what I would normally ride if speaking in terms of s, m, l etc. You'd probably be alright on either the extra small (52cm) or small (54cm) depends how compact you want it to feel. Awesome bikes though, I'm absolutely chuffed with mine!
