Evening all,
I have finally decided on a Genesis Datum As my new winter bike. Possibly a do it all for me bike. Next decision is which model. A 105 build and upgrade the wheels or go for a stock ultegra build and upgrade the wheels in a few months after saving .

Apart for the wheels what other areas have you guys been changing?

Any recommendations on best upgrades?

Any pics of upgraded pimped up Datums?

I bought a frameset...and built with parts i had...or got cheap.

I have Hunt wheels and a secondhand 105 groupset. When that goes i will get some ultegra hydro..they are nicer than my tep spyres. But the spyres are fine really 🙂

I always find the idea of buying a bike when you know you don't want lots of it odd

Maybe start with a frame?

I would just ride the wheels provided until I have a reason not to, like them not functioning. But that is just me

I'd go Ultegra as thats the best gears you are going to get unless you intend to go Di2!!
But change the tyres straight away and saddle.
Then wheels, but wheels do make a massive difference as the fitted ones are heavy and not tubeless compatible (not sure about the 2018 version)

I'm going to be selling mine soon (black 53cm), either complete or parts. Hydraulic Ultegra groupset, carbon FSA stem/bars/seatpost, Hunt wheels, etc

let me know if you are interested in any parts

I was considering the Datum as my next bike but when I decided that if I bought it I would upgrade the wheels immediately it became far too expensive. I've ordered a Whyte Wessex instead which weighs quite a bit less and has much better spec as standard.

nice one[/url]

Since Genesis and DT Swiss are distributed by the same people most Genesis dealers will offer a decent upgrade package on some DT's when you buy the bike, ask 'em.

Have decided on the 30 2018 model. I’ve had a good deal from my LBS. love the green finish. Sadle and tyres will go onto it from another bike. Will probably stick with the fulcrums untill the weather improves and ride them under some mudguards for now. 4 season hunts will follow in the spring o r i here good thing about hope hubs wheels.

Love the look of the stealth Datum in the picture.

Anyone else using mudguards on theirs?

I have been using the raceblade xl guards, but as its been so wet o want a pr of those super cool carbon ones. Sadly they are £100, so it will probably be a set of SKS Chromoplastics

Just put these on my defy, look and sound awesome, feel a lot lighter than the stock giant wheels too. Can’t wait to get out on it tomorrow!!
