The carbon fork which came on my Croix de Fer (2010 model I think) is looking very much worse for wear and I am wondering what the opinion is.

They only fitted the carbon fork for one year, and now, all of the black paint under the crown has flaked off leaving bear aluminium which has now corroded. The bike has been used pretty much solely on road so I guess salt etc is the issue, but I am not sure if it's something I should expect. Genesis have not got back to me - third e-mail sent today.

So, firstly, there is the safety concern, but not knowing how exactly they are made, I can't judge that. However, today, I noticed a sticker on the fork which says, 'these forks are only to be used OFF road', WHAT! How can a bike like this have such a strange caveat on it's use when it is marketed as a do anything, ideal for commuting, style bike?

So, my questions are, should this be considered normal? Am I going to die? Has that caveat screwed me anyway and also, does anyone else have these forks and seen the same issue?

Opinions appreciated.

'these forks are only to be used OFF road'

I remember those from when I worked there, they arrived with that decal on. Daft.. I mailed the fork maker to ask what+why and they seemed to suggest since they were off-road forks they changed the wording from the road fork that says 'only for road use' .. Fair enough, how's your / my Chinese? )

Take it to a dealer and ask them to speak to sportline. That's pretty much what genesis will tell you because genesis don't really deal with it themselves. Where do you live?

Toppers - I am near Kidderminster. Got the bike through Halfords on the cycle to work scheme. Two Wheels at Amblecote have helpfully said to get back to them if I have no joy.

As for the decal, well, I guess in terms of bad translation of the use of the product it makes sense, but surely Genesis should have got that changed or re-worded or removed.

They did, but that batch had them on. I expect most would just ignore it.
