hey guys, doing a chinese enduro build at the moment (ican p9) and am looking for a downtube protector. Is there any brand that have a decent protector that can is easily malleable?
This one looks like it might work. Been thinking of it for my bike. Chain reaction have a few others as well for the Nukeproof/Vitus range. Trek also do a few for their bikes which may be a bit flexible(in a good way) too.
Go old skool, cut up an old tyre and cable tie it to the down tube!!
I did something similar with my last build (cube stereo 140 c62), used a tube with super glue :D. Trying to do something a bit nicer this time though, doing a pretty high end build (lyrik ultimate, carbon hoops,12sp xtr gears, hope v4s, chris king bb and headset).
Scotch 2228 tape.
Literally does EVERYTHING.
I have that nukeproof one on my bird Aeris, it's flexible enough to work on a kinked tube but don't think it would get around the BB itself. It's definitely thicker material than 2228 tape which I don't think is thick enough to stop a big rock from dinging a downtube.
@dc1988 Is that the one for the Nukeproof Descent? Would you mind letting me know how long/wide it is please? Is it flexible enough to mould around a wider or narrower down tube than it is designed for? I assume it is made of a thick rubber type material?
I mean if you smack a rock that hard I'm not sure a small piece of thermoformed plastic is going to prevent your frame from denting; so it's all really cosmetic anyway.
ION SAS Tech. Not their stickers but the stuff they make the knee pads from. Self adhesive. About 35 quid. Excellent stuff. I’ve had lots of rock bangs - it absorbs the impact too
