[Closed] Geigerrig Hydration Systems - A solution to a non problem?

I was looking at one of these yesterday and I can't decide if they're over designed solutions to non problems or are a good idea?
I am potentially embarking on a 23'ish day off road ride miles from anyone next year and the filter system particularly appeals but they're expensive packs to buy for one months use. I need to justify having one by using it regularly in the UK and at this point, I'm struggling.
What do you reckon? A great system or a bit daft?

(Usual caveat required for STW these days: Yes, I know I'm a big boy and I can make my own decisions...I'm just interested in other people's perspective).

I'm tempted....I think 🙂

It's not that much more than a Camelbak Mule or Charge.

I'd buy that over a Camelback any day - for a start the res is made by Hydrapac with their slidelock seal and you can turn them inside out to clean them so no messing with stupid brushes....

and Camelback are no where near as well made as they are made out to be - paying for the name on them not whats in them...

It depends on your view of things. That allows you to carry unprocessed water and filter it on demand, ensuring your bladder is not suitable to use if you get a clean water source. There are lots of well-proven small filtration systems that could complement what you have (if you have a Camelbak or the like) so you could process water as and when required.

Where are you doing this trip?

If I can get my head around it I'm doing the Tour Divide route. Not as part of the race though. I'm leaving my current job in August 2013 (if not before) and my family are happy for me to do it then. There's just me to persuade that it's going to happen now.
I'm having a proper ponder about these packs now. My initial thoughts were that they were over designed nonsense. The bulb thing looks odd. The whole concept was beyond me. Just suck! Now I'm coming round to it quite a bit.

A mate runs an outdoor shop and was given one to try. We both used it and decided they are poor quality and the pressure system is nothing more than a gimic.

The pack itself was poorly made and the materials felt cheap. Certainly not a patch on Camelbak or Osprey.

The pressure system means that the bladder bulges. The hard plate in the pack to stop it pushing in your back is too small and moves to the side so when the bladder is pumped up it makes the pack incomfortable. It is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist and it simply makes the pack push in your back.
