Not that technically minded so bear with me.

Just bought this replacement headset which is semi integrated.

The one that came off seemed a lot less integrated especially given the fact there were about 2 ball bearings left.

Do i need to apply grease to this or is it already greased up inside?

Thanks for helping a numpty. 😀

(personally, I'd lift the seals and grease it up but many won't)

I'm going to have to think of some more goose related puns. Let me fire up Google and have a gander.

Cheers fellas. Followed reply nr 1 - more cant do any harm.

Got it back together now - took me a while to realise that i didnt need all of the bits that came in the package (the alloy cups to be precise). Initially it felt a lot better and i was pleased with myself as i really am pretty pathetic with practical stuff. However when i bounced it down the steps on its back wheel, I could feel a bit of a jarring in the frame as i held it. I think i will take it apart again and just make sure its all seated as tight as possible. Not now though as the beer is open!

Thanks again WW

Sounds like the headset isn't quite tight enough, undo the bolts on the fork/stem and tighten the top bolt a quarter turn, then do the stem bolts up again...

Have you put the new cartridge bearings (parts 5 & 8) into the old cups that were in the frame? From what you said above it sounds like the old headset had loose ball bearings so the cups could be different.

I have replaced the old headset with a new one of the same model. However thinking about it, if the old cups were still on the frame then that would explain some of my confusion last night.

Everything 'feels' right. I think....
