Hello
Building my first bike so having to think a little harder about stuff I've never quite thought about before! Going XT and trying to figure out best ratios for my build. I ride around Bath: super steep hills and clay soil. It's a 650b bike, 40/30/22 on the crank and am trying to choose what ratios to go with at the back. I have a choice of 11/32 , 11/34, or 11/36. Am I right in thinking the 11/36 option will be an easier ride?

thanks for the help

adam

Correct. No real reason to go for anything but 11-36 unless you have issues with the big jumps.

Def go with 11-36. Only a roadie would consider the "jumps" big.

You'll certainly appreciate the better range of gearing, you won't give the difference between each gear a second thought.

If you're building this yourself and planning on running three rings on the front I would ask what length cage of xt mech you're planning on using. You are using a long cage mech aren't you?

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to talk you out of running three rings on the front.
