It won't change down nicely. Even going in to the 11 tooth with slack visible in the cable it struggles.
Stops are set correctly.
Have lubed up mech. It's an old set up from another bike and it worked ok on that. I've got the cable so slack it's a push and a half to go up the block.
The only variable is the chain length ,would that affect down changes?

Mech or hanger twisted? Also how is it with no cable at all just shoving it across and letting it come back with the spring?

Meant to say how it without the chain too, does it snap across sharply or is it gummed up or hesitant?

I'm swapping from 9 speed to 10 and the 9 changed like a dream.
It will change from big to small but not necessarily stop at all the cogs along the way.

Is the slack actually at the RD or further up the cable? If so, the inner may be sticking in the last cable stop (I had this on my road bike recently).

Otherwise, does it shift if you gently pull the mech across to take out the slack?

If you remove the chain, does the derailleur move to the correct position underneath each sprocket as you shift, or is it sticking on downshifts?

Will have to check tomorrow. It must be a problem with the mech.
Shall take it off and give it a proper soak.
It's a Zee. Might borrow an xt off another bike.

There are two types of zee mechs, close and wide ratio. Could this be part of the issue? I'm sure ive also read the zee mechs dont work well with double set ups, if that's what you're doing? Or with more than 36t cogs??

I'd check if the gear hanger is straight.

Put a washer between the mech and the dropout. It moves the mech over a bit and can sometimes make the difference. Early Cotic Souls could have this issue.

Washer fitted. It’s better coming down the block . Going up it feels like the cable is stretching. Will check the ferrules tonight.
