My son has a Norco b line 24" wheels and we have had a new rear cassette and mech fitted. It now runs a 11-26 road cassette and short cage road mech at the back and a 32-22 at the front. It was supposed to be his DH bike, for the alps mainly, but since it's had some floats fitted to the front if rides so nice he may also use it a bit more as a play bike (chicksands, local woods etc). I am thinking of changing his front ring to a 34 or 36t, for the DH use. Would he need this? He is only 10 and a skinny lad, but he does like pushing slightly heavy gears (like his mum). The LBS said to stick to the 32......

We are also building him a new HT as he has grown out of his hotrock. I got a 11-34 rear cassette for it and 22-32 front rings (taking the outer off). Will I need to change the 32 for a 34 or 36 on this one? I myself feel more 'secure' on a bike pushing slightly heavier gears, but he is only a child.....

What are your thoughts? I don't really know much about all this.........Starting on the HT tomorrow....

Cheers guys!
Simone

ps: ....... I know he is slightly "overbiked" but the Norco was a bargain at £270!!.....looks cool with my old floats too 🙂
