I've always used Shimano PTFE coated gear inners with SP41 outers and always been happy with that combo after trying a few different things that didn't really work for me.
I have some SP41 for a new run of cable but have no inners.
So what to use as inners and is there anything better than Shimano PTFE or whatever they are referred to as?

Can't say I've particularly noticed a difference in any of them really. I get the black ones from Halfords, as I usually only realise I don't have any spares when I need it there and then!

I've always used Jagwire slick stainless cables from ebay, economical and seem to work well enough?

Fibrax die drawn slick. Cheap direct from the company. Excellent product that doesn't lose its outer lining, as it hasn't got one! Support British manafacturing too. Win Win.
