I need to replace the cables on my road bikes. I pine for the old days where CRC/wiggle et al had a look about a zillion full-kit options with teflon-coated innerw and pre-greased outers for about 5p.
Now it seems to be £30 for the most basic of crap.
Anyone got some recommendations?
Cheers!
Shimano SP41 gear outer, Shimano BC9000 brake outer
Ashima Action + gear & brake inners.
Gear outer -Shimano SP41 off the roll from your LBS, fitted with sealed SP4 end caps, 1.1mm stainless slick inners from any of the usual suspects (i'd recommend Elvedes, personally). Edit - Ashima Action + as per Simon above are very good too.
I buy a shimano kit if I need endy bits and ferrules and such, but then I reuse them til they break so inbetween I just get whatever stainless inner is cheap, and I got a roll of sp41 which'll probably last my whole life
Yes, the latest Ultegra brake cables seem to be significantly better than anything else I've used, noticeable improvement in braking power and lever feel.
Condor have them cheap, I've stocked up 😎
