Looks interesting and at a seemingly sensible price too.

Hmm, the Fenix 3 also looks good. Significantly more expensive, but a much nicer looking thing. It also has so many features that I'd probably not use.
I was considering the Apple watch for tracking activities, but the Vivoactive does look like it seemingly does everything I'd want
I'd promised myself a Forerunner® 920XT when I reach a weight goal, but I may have to reconsider that now.
Edit: Garmin just need to sort out the Horlicks that is Connect
That looks impressive. I'd like to see more specs and features tho, it could replace my TomTom multisport which is starting to annoy me a little.

Indeed, although updates are rumoured. Currently using it to sync to other services such as Strava
Shame no HR without a chest strap. Other than that it does look good.
The fenix3 looks really nice, if they could integrate smart phone features like notifications to it also then it would be a good do it all smart watch.
Edit: reading the text in the table it appears it does do that, looks like I might be investing...
I'm a bit torn with the fenix 3
Agree, looks great, but no touch screen, which lets it down a bit at that price point.
I think the Garmin stand will be mighty popular at the cycle show this year!
Looks mint to me, my 310XT may be up for sale!

Has another reliable way of doing it been established?

I'd be interested to know how good the current crop of optical wrist ones are. Reviews seem a bit mixed.
