You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I use garmin connect to log all my rides via either Fenix 6 or Edge 1030.
Whilst i get loads of single ride analysis and a map, i was wondering if there’s a way to view all rides on a single map?
Now i’m getting old i can remember where i rode but not always when i rode somewhere. So to go to a map to find it would be a great help to the onset of memory impairment!
Had a quick look in tinterweb and seemingly i’m asking too much! Strava does it i think but a) not blowing the cash for the privilege and b) other than a few fancy charts and said heatmaps, i dont see it offers any more than garmin connect plus a couple of free ios apps like Connect Stats!
Any ideas?
I use VeloViewer for that. It takes your Strava data (works on free Strava) and gives lots of analysis. You'd need to subscribe but it's a lot cheaper than Strava.
Looks good but i’m trying to keep away from strava and within the garmin environment if possible.
You can do it using QGIS, but it's a something of a project getting to know how it works. You won't get ride stats either, but the GPS plugin will iterate through an entire directory of gpx files and merge all those it finds into a single layer that can be displayed on a map. An example using some of mine is shown below layered over one of the Google maps layers (you can also do the same thing with the satellite view).

I don't use Strava - I log my rides using the Trails app on iOS. Using QGIS was something I did for a but of fun, but I am planning rides for 2022 to fill in some of the gaps!
If you still have the activities on your Fenix or Edge you can plug them into your computer and look at all your activities on Basecamp (available from Garmin website). I couldn't see an obvious way of loading them directly from Garmin Connect but there probably is a way of outputting a format from Connect that Basecamp can read.

You can have Garmin send it to Strava automatically and just set all your privacy settings in Strava to the max. TBH, if VeloViewer would take it straight from Garmin, I'd avoid Strava too 🙂
Plenty to go at there. Thanks.
I like the look of that QGIS as it mentions automating from a server so potentially could export GPx files via RunGap to my NAS and get the maps to auto update.
Looks like a little “working from home project to get into that one”!
Simples! In the end anyway. Found an app called HealthFit (ios…other platforms are available…not sure if there’s an android version).
Has heatmaps and loads of stats built in. Takes data from the health app rather than garmin but saves a load of faffing!
Not sure if its changed but I vaguely remember garmin and ios not playing nicely so GPS wasnt shared; just workout data. but i already use rungap as it makes it miles easier to share tracks with friends & colleagues.
All goes from rungap across to apple health and healthfit analyses it. All happens via autosync in the background so whilst it sounds a faff, i just need to sync my garmin to the connect all and open then relevant app.
