Anyone used one?  What are they like?  Difficult to link to a 820?

Didn't realise they'd released a new one! I thought the original was interesting, but very expensive. New one is a bit more affordable. Just read the review on DCRainmaker. Interestingly he said that the feedback from owners for the original was very positive. One thing I didn't realise it did was to flash the light (or change the pattern of flashing if it's already in flashing mode) as a car approaches you, which is very clever. Looks like it connects fine with the 820.

Don't think it's a new version?  Just reduced the price on the original?

New version out April-ish this year and looks like a decent, powerful rear light. The old one is a few years old and looked a bit Niterider-esque. Actually one of the things that put me off was that the light itself was a bit rubbish if you're used to Exposure, Moon, etc, which is something they've addressed with the new one.

Father in law has one.

His hearing is not the best.

Normally it's I who gives him a heads up as i hear vehicles approaching.

Ever since he's got it, the Garmin thingy picks up a vehicle pretty much when i do, sometimes sooner if a windy day.

Light is not that impressive but is clear.

It's not for me but it's given him more confidence.

Very usefull.  If mine broke i'd get another straight away.  DCR reviews are spot on, note the bit on new version review where he says once people get one they dont get rid of it, which is how I feel.

Think I paid £80-90 which is about right, at £150 I may of needed more encouragement.

I liked mine a lot (it got stolen)

I have a friend who has one who won't give up on Garmin for Wahoo - despite a constant stream of abuse - because of the Varia

Wasn't something I'd ever really considered, but having read the DCR review I'm now thinking about one!

It's a great addition, especially on windy days or long straight roads. I like that it gives you a hint of how fast the cars are coming at you also. Only poor thing is for long days it seems to really run down the battery on the 520 but no problems connecting at all.

Like that the new one seems smaller and a better shape (or at least that is what it looked like).

It seems like a good idea safety wise - could help on a long ride when exhausted and not 100% alert.

I have one - old style, bought at a discount

I like it.  The beep comes nice and early and is very consistent (well, the 1st unit went back immediately because it used to hallucinate traffic on totally empty roads)

I imagine it's a bit more of a PITA in town but most of my riding's semi-rural on narrow roads and the early warning's very welcome (as some drivers, you'll all be amazed to hear, can be inconsiderate ****s)
