Someone got me a garmin 315 as a pressie.
I’ve paired it with my 830, and the little radar icon appears at the top right of the screen and flashes red, whilst the light in the Varia flashes blue
It Doesn’t detect cars however. Absolutely nothing.
Unit is brand new so any other companies product I’d assume user error, but given garmin stuff usually has only a 75% chance of not being broken straight out the box, I’m less convinced I’m at fault
Is there additional software I need to download? Currently running 9.2

I can't easily test right now, but I've a feeling that the icon flashing means something like 'enabled but not currently connected'.
So I'd check the manual and start again from scratch. It's possible that it's faulty, of course, and that's why it's not connected, but if I'm remembering correctly then it's just not connected so don't bother trying to detect cars until you get a solid icon.
My Varias (both previous versions) have been totally reliable and robust BTW, so they're certainly not all flakey.
You are spot on! disconnected it and started again and the icon was solid black
Took it out and it worked a treat. Must say just a mile up and down the road left me thinking this could be a brilliant little gadget for the local country roads.
I absolutely love mine. When I first read reviews etc. I did think it was a bit of a pointless gadget, but so many people said that they were surprised by how much they loved it that I gave it a go. I feel a bit deaf without one now!
I’ve got one and think it’s great. DCRainmaker apparently gave himself a hell of a fright while cycling alongside a railway line…
