Question…my Edge Explore has died, so replaced it with a 530. With the Explore, if I recorded a ride on it, the data wouldn’t update my ‘training metrics’ on my Fenix. So I just ended up using the Explore as a glorified map, and recording all my rides on my Fenix. Seemed a bit daft but I do find the training/recovery stuff useful. However, I was wondering with the newer units, will it be clever enough to update my training data when recording activities on the 530?
I’m thinking @DrP might know the answer to this…
They are two independent units if my understanding of your question is correct. It would be nice if two Garmin devices communicated, but alas they don't. Therefore training data on two separate Garmin devices can't be amalgamated. At least to my knowledge.
I think the answer is "it depends".
It depends on what "training data" you are looking for. For instance, My Edge 530 has all of my Personal Records in it, regardless of what device they were recorded on. Garmin Connect would give you an overall picture of all of your training data though and syncing your devices to that should propagate at least some of them between devices.
Im particularly thinking the Training Load and recovery times. I have used that quite a bit whilst returning to full fitness from covid and have found it a useful indicator (realise it isn’t anywhere next exact).
Guess I need a play and try it. Maybe on a commute.
My Fenix 6 and 530 work together fine. Training load, status, recovery time, vo2 etc appear as shared/combined on each device. Can be interrogated further and sperated in the app as required. Not sure I have done anything special to enable this, I know my previous Fenix 5 and 820 didn't though.
Ooooohhh snownrock this is exactly the news I needed to know. My combo is Fenix 6S and 530. Right, I’ll give it a go!
I think it should on those units...
As I understand it.. the fenix is likely to do all the 'thinking' with regards to the training status amd training load....
It can do this using it's own recording, or the info from the edge head unit...
So..long story short...
It'll involve a bit of synching back and forth, but should work how you want it to!
DrP
Just to add to DrP's post, it can take a few sync cycles sometimes but does always work.
If you do some zwifting too I don't rely on syncing zwift to Garmin connect as the training load figures are always crazy. I link Fenix to trainer and record a separate indoor bike session.
Thanks both. Yeah I normally just indoor record to my Fenix too (I used FulGaz so it doesn't integrate that smoothly).
I used to record the same ride on both units (had a chest strap HRM linked to my 530 as well as my Forerunner HRM). Sync both to Garmin Connect and review data in app.
Both units gave generally very similar results. Delete one of the activities after you've checked so it's not double counted.
Generally I don't give more than a cursory glance at the results on the unit though - I use Connect.
Now, I prefer to just use 530 + chest strap HRM...
Thing is I don’t just cycle - I gym, hike, kayak etc - therefore record quite a bit on my Fenix, so using just the 530 doesn’t work for me.
I've got a Fenix 6 & Edge 530 and can confirm it all syncs up - you just need to enable "Physio Trueup" on both devices. I think you are prompted to enable it when you setup the new device.
As far as I can tell...anything Indo that is recorded on my watch and synced to Connect and anything I do on the bike computer that is recorded and synced to connect are all combined to give a single value.
Connect is most accurate, but once watch and bike computer sync and get the latest connect stuff, they also show same values...
So from what I can tell, as long as you sync each device to Garmin Connect, everything is factored in.
Thanks all. This is good news. Didn’t buy the 530 for this reason (clearly as would have checked before), but a good added bonus and one less thing to charge!
Speaking of REALLY using all the garmin Fenix (7, in my case) features....
I'm gonna to use for tomorrow's half marathon:
Pace pro
Live track- sharing location AND the route progress...!
Never used either before, so will see if the family do actually figure out where we are on course!

Fenix 6 and Edge 530 work well together.
It's a bit annoying with Garmins that you have to upgrade things together if you want all the stats. I had an 820 before, and I think I got training status, but not load, or something.
DrP. Interested in how you get on with the live track. Sometimes I feel I should use it when I go out on my own.
Oh and good luck with the run!
Took the plunge and used the 530 on the ride today, without my watch. And everything synced perfectly 🙂 Super happy, especially as the 530 was an annoying purchase for a dead unit.

I’m no DrP but I have live track enabled and it works as it should so long as you have mobile signal. Same goes for incident detection though I find it too trigger happy on the Edge 530 for MTB.
Also I can’t think of any reason not to use live track so someone knows where you are just in case
Thanks Rubber. Good to know. Definitely should think of using it when I’m out on my own. The incident detection on my Fenix is pretty overly sensitive with my RX4s on my gravel bike 😅

I didn’t even know my watch had it! Just checked and it is enabled across the board but ‘MTB’ wasn’t in the list of supported activities. And same as you, it’s braking to a stop that gave false alarms
I've found if I'm tracking at a race and I end up clapping, when I stop clapping, it detects an incident!
Haven't used livetracking as not sure how to but I suspect I've not used it as I'm convinced it'll drain battery but will do some reading and see how to use it.
