You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I recently bought a Garmin Instinct Solar watch, which I am very happy with. However my old 310xt, which I have used for the last 6 years, downloads my activity via the ANT USB connector to my PC when I get home. The Instinct is coupled to my phone (Samsung Galaxy S8, just over 2 years old) and therefore is constantly updating. On my last two rides I have left home with a full battery on the phone and 6 hours later (1 hour driving each way plus 4 hours riding with activity tracking) my phone is down to around 10-15%! I also run the Life360 app, so my wife can see where I am, a result of riding solo during lock down, and I am pretty certain that this app is battery hungry. So the two together I think are vastly reducing the battery life on my phone. Anyone else having this kind of problem? I could reduce some of the functionality on the watch or maybe turn the the phone off while riding, but then what's the point in having it! I should also say that for the majority of my rides this is ok and I can charge the phone in my car, but on a long day out the phone is a vital part of my kit.
Maybe a back-up power bank if you feel you really need to use both the app and the watch?
Just turn off Bluetooth on the phone???
Change phone? For example into Ulefone Power 5...
With my moderate use I'm charging it once every 8-10 days...
It is not ideal but most of apps I'm using working OK, camera is OK with good lightning conditions...
Not extremely expensive one, less than 200 quid if you look around...
Cheers!
I.
I think you need to look at the settings and restrict it's access
Maybe just use garmin live track for location sharing?
Any kind of regular waking up / gps location / data upload is always going to be a bit power hungry though.
