Someone on here said they sent their knackered Garmin 800 back and paid £70 or something to get it reconditioned. When I emailed them I just got a stock response saying my warranty was up (which I know...)

can anyone help?

My Vivoactive HR died  the other week over a year out of warranty, they picked up my tweet asking me to give some contact details. They've offered to replace it free of charge. Basically I told them it was a great product and why that I thought it had committed suicide as it was having to sit in a hot tub and no be doing ultra hikes.

Mine have been out of warranty and replaced/repaired several times.

Pretty sure that’s what I tried and they simply replied to say it was out of warranty. Will try again 🙂

I put my 200 through the wash in my pants pocket.

Looks new and is as good as new does that count as reconditioned

My not-quite-three-years-old Edge 1000 is suffering from the infamous power button problem, where the rubber gland that is part of the case splits. exposing the internals to water and preventing you turning the thing on. It got really bad over the summer where the only way to turn it on was to plug it into a USB power source, which wakes it up...and then remembering to not turn it off at lunchtime!

Two year warranty and Garmin want £200 for a "repair", which is in fact a recon swapout. Bit bloody annoyed with this, TBH as this is a common problem with them and all it needs is a new back case, which Garmin won't sell separately. £200 is nearly as much as you could get a new one for!

Anyway, opened the thing up and filled the back of the power switch membrane with Dow 781 (clear silicone, £4 from Screwfix) and, after leaving it to set overnight, it's quite literally, as good as new again.

(it's actually a neater job than it looks on the photo!)

Someone on the Garmin forums recommended this place: https://www.nutzzelectronics.co.uk/ and someone else recommended this one:  http://www.tonikuk.co.uk/ . I can't comment on either personally.

So, I finally got through to folk on the chat.  And they're sending me a replacement device for £75.  TBH I'm pretty happy with that as it stops me shelling out on the newer versions that seem to get fairly average reviews.  I'll wait til they sort out those issues and then treat myself!
