Ok, new Garmin Edge Explore and doing the usual getting to know the menu, configuration thing. Just wondering what will change in my route option if “mixed surface” is selected over “gravel” cycling? Any Edge veterans about?

Gravel option is more Gnar and you’ll be more attractive to the ladies 😉

You'd think mixed would be a mix of proper bridleway and road stuff/gravel, while 'gravel' would be mostly, erm, gravel, but it's all going to depend on how Garmin classifies a particular stretch of road / trail. Can you plan a couple of local routes using different settings and work it out from that?

Interest piqued because Mrs (sic) BWD has just acquired an Edge Explore and didn't even realise that the surface selection option existed. I'll post back if she works it out. Me, I'm sticking to my Elemnt Roam and encyclopaedic (ahem) knowledge of local routes.

Yes, I can see that obvious advantage, but would that necessarily have any subtle difference to the route? I suppose it might; more stops a coffee shops and the like!😜
