You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I bet you'll be surprised to hear that I'm having problems with Garmin - Edge 1000 Explore.
Livetrack starts automatically when I start and sends email to the recipient. Recpient opens email to get map with this message, 'page will update automatically when location data is available'. It does not then track the ride. Can anyone advise please? Anyone with the same problem?
I am interested in this because I was going to start using it.
This is a bit obvious but is worth checking. Livetrack needs your phone with you connected to the device by Bluetooth and with data working on the phone. Garmin connect has to be running on the phone. I think you also need to set connect to be able to run in background but I can't remember how
In the end I gave up and just use glympse on my phone as it is more reliable and I have to carry my phone anyway
edit: for the running in background I think it is in settings under 'battery optimisation'. If you don't set Connect to not optimise then I think it messes with it when running in background so it can't track any more.
Just use Glympse 🙂
It's notoriously unreliable.
This is unlikely, but two variants of one way to get your symptoms are: start outside home, with your phone connected to your home wifi (perhaps still in the house), then ride off with no mobile data (or leaving the phone behind).
They rolled out an updated version of Connect a few days ago which, if you have a look at the Garmin forums, seems to be causing a few problems (again). Try re-installing the previous version, 4.29, which works okay on my EE1000. FWIW I no longer allow auto updates for Connect because they invariably introduce new problems, I wait for a couple of weeks to make sure all is well on the Garmin board before installing the upgrade.
My watch did this constantly until I set off away from my house wifi, it seems to set off ok then lose house wifi and then mess up, if I'm setting off from the house I turn phone wifi off and it works
It appears to be something to do with switching wifi to phone internet during initial stages of a run that causes the issue
I've linked Garmin connect to Strava. My 510 and phone have Bluetooth on. As I ride Strava's beacon sends the livetrack data. You do need to be a Strava premium/ summit / mug though.
Thanks guys, I'ii try your suggestions.
