Heard a strange noise while out on a ride, and eventually saw that my Garmin Edge 830 had decided I'd had an accident and was busy sending emails to my wife. During the course of the ride, it did the same thing several more times, but now I was able to cancel the emails before they went out (no, in case you're wondering, MrsJ did not take any notice of the email alerting her to the grave danger her derar husband was in). I'm wondering what exactly it's triggered by. It seems like it goes off more or less any time I stop. I'm not braking particularly ferociously so it's a bit of a mystery why it's started happening. In the short term, I'll just turn off the notification, but I'd prefer not to, so if anyone has any insight, I'm all ears!

I'm assuming it's some sort of inertia switch that's faulty. Is it under warranty?

OMG, my 830 was the same, hard stop at a gate, would start off the incident detection, rough ground, incident detection, put the bike on the ground while I open a gate...I think it's record was in double figures for setting off on one ride

I turned it off in the end.

I use the live track feature, and that sends an email to a link where some-one can check where you are and whether you're moving.

My 530 started do it recently.  Wonder if it was the update I did recently.  Wondered what had happened when I heard beeping.  Wasn't as if I was braking hard either.

I use livetrack but find it  bit unreliable. Sometimes it says it has started - both on mobile and G520 and an email is sent but shows no tracking at all.

Recently it's worked for about half the ride then stopped tracking although the full ride has been recorded on the G520........   other times it works perfectly.

I turned it off immediately when I got my Explore. MrsF doesn't need to know about my 'little lie downs' as the lads call it.

It seems to trigger with an immediate stop from some rough movements. I get it whilst trailbuilding when I stop use the whacker plate!
My 530 is good as it doesn't seem to be triggered, but I'm clearly not riding hard enough or my stopping is fat to controlled!
I'm annoyed the Fenix has the option removed from biking activities.

My garmin watch triggered twice on one ride just because I stopped at a gate. The one time I actually fell off and got a hurty knee (idiot fall while stationary) it did nothing.

I turned it off on my edge after it went off just going round a slightly sharp corner on a road.

The live track also seems to eat phone batteries.

It's potentially a recent update thing. My 530 started doing it recently too, especially on rough descents or emergency braking. Super annoying so I have just turned it off for the moment until the next update.

I found it too sensitive on my edge explore and turned it off after too many false notifications, not that anyone took any notice anyway!

On my edge 530 it is off by default for MTB
