My Edge 530 had a firmware update a couple of days ago. Today, when out on my road bike for the first time in some weeks, the incident detection triggered three times when I was braking.
Granted, my Shimano brakes can be a bit grabby (which causes a bit of vibration) when I'm trying to warm them up/burn off the damp, but never to the point of triggering the incident detection
Anyone else?? As far as I know, there's no way to "de-tune" it so I've switched it off for now - which isn't ideal....
at the end of November i was commuting home from work and it went off twice. i hadnt had an 'incident'.
Its never done it before.
At first i didnt know what it was, hearing a beeping as i rode along, only to look down and for it to tell me it had informed my wife i may have had a shunt. Thankfully i quickly messaged her and said i was ok before she released the search and rescue helicopter.
the second time it did it, i managed to cancel it before it went too far.
On the one hand, what a great system, on the other.... i am guessing an update has made it overly sensitive? 🤷♂️
Hiya,
My Fenix 6, when in MTB mode disables the incident detection system. I know your not riding off road, but after two incidents I decided to keep it in MTB mode.

Yep, I have this too - it's getting really annoying! I've set it off both on and off road. A good idea in theory, but on practice not so much...
I also experienced similar back in November on my road bike when braking to go round a tight corner. It wasn’t even that much of a deceleration but I didn’t spot that it triggered the message, and suddenly had my wife on the phone.
Two weeks previously I’d come off while mountain biking (not seriously, but definitely a more sudden stop) and nothing triggered at all.
I've had to turn incident detection off on mine, it is utterly useless in every way. It detects gentle braking on a MTB, it detects the smallest of bumps but when I clipped a tree stump and was thrown over the bars with enough impact that south wales registered an earthquake it didn't trigger. The process to stop it phoning your emergency contact is ridiculous too, holding the screen for 25 seconds is near impossible while mountain biking so you have to stop to do it, you normally have to remove your gloves too because the touch screen is made by Garmin.
Given the amount of times it detected an incident on each ride, I spent more time stopped with gloves off that I did riding.
I like Garmin but they do produce some garbage. I have visions of their product testing department consisting of a single poorly paid apprentice who likes a pub lunch and does all his work late on a Friday having enjoyed said pub lunch a little bit too much.

Which is somewhat concerning when you look at their aviation products. I assume their best people work in that team.
My watch does this, I think you can change the sensitivity though. I just turned mine off as certain local rooty trails still activate it.
I like the idea but annoyed it has been removed from MTB tracking. It does seem to be sensitive - trailbuilding activities and clapping at races can kick it off.
I'm kidding myself by saying I'm clearly a very smooth rider as I've never had it activate whilst riding - suspect the difference between my forward motion and a hard stop isn't great enough to register a difference though!
I turned mine off as deviating from the route I was following also seemed to set it off; so any diverting around a fallen tree or nicking off the trail for a piddle would alert international rescue
I get it on the MTB when stopping to open gates. Not sure if it's the combination of hard braking and the clatter from the gate, or just the sudden stop itself. It's mildly annoying.
I turned it off after it triggered going around a moderately sharp corner on a road in Essex. This was several years ago on a 1030 edge.
It also used to trigger whenever I lifted my bike over a gate.
I've switched this off on both my Edge Explore and Venu watch as everything from the Surrey Hills to Ard Rock stages set it off repeatedly.
I’ve turned it off too, I thought it was a good idea, but every time I stopped on my road bike, even coasting to a stop, it just went off. The last time I was so distracted by it when I stopped to turn right at some cross roads I nearly got hit by a van.
bot had any issues on my Fenix 6 but not sure if it’s even on. I’m leaving it alone.
Mine was triggered by gentle braking on my road bike, but not by falling off my MTB. I turned it off.
So, general consensus is it's a pile of poo...
Guess I'll keep it switched off
Mine has never gone off accidentally.
My watch has gone off when I was trail running and fell, so I know it works 🙂
There's a spot on one of my routes where I approach a gate at speed after a rocky descent and it always goes off there... other than this weekend. Maybe the new update has had unintended results.
