You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Another well know mountain bike magazine, let's call it Offroad Cycling Great Britain (OCGB), publishes 4 little cut out maps in it's magazine every month - and very nice they are too. You can view these on your i-phone or other device using ViewRanger.
The problem I'm having is getting the GPX file off ViewRanger (allowing me to put it on my Garmin). I've gone through all the drop box gubbins, but it just doesn't work!
I can see the route perfectly on viewranger, I just can't extract the data.
Anyone managed it? There's a route round Bewtys I'd like to try.
Have you tried logging in to http://my.viewranger.com/ and exporting the GPX file from there? I've taken several routes/tracks from Viewranger and used them on a Garmin Dakota/Oregon no problem.
I've tried to do that, and followed VR's help section. Where the button should be there are only two options, a greyed out button saying 'Route owned' and another button saying 'Print to PDF'.
The route is called Betws-y-Coed, Wales (MBK303), but ideally I want to do it regularly so want to sort it out.
Viewranger only allows you to export GPX files from routes you have created. It's to tie people in to using the app to navigate, which in the real world, is pretty pointless as my phone is too expensive to attach to my bike and i prefer using my Garmin.
To get around this, I create the route again (on ipad, phone, whatever) using the original magazine route as an overlay and then save the new route as my own route, which then allows me to export it.
Time consuming but it works.
Thanks dknwhy, just as I suspected / feared. While I applaud your efforts I don't think I'll be doing the same. I guess I'll just take the little cut out with me.
Ah well, at least trusty STW gives it to you in a nice straightforward download.
