Has anyone got any experience with the various evilbay offers for the Garmin MicroSD card with the full GB OS mapping?
At £22.99 it seems too good to be true?
Tbh i have it on my edge 800, at that resolution its pretty useless. Not just the 1:50k level of detail, the lack of pixles.

Fair point. I've got full OS access via my iPhone for both 1:50 & 1:25...I was just thinking it would be nice to have this on my 810 on the bars as opposed to having to stop and dig it out of my pocket when in unfamiliar territory.
I have got a quad-lock case but always feel very nervous with my phone sitting on the bars...especially when on rougher trails.
If depends on the area, i find it fine for gravel type riding where tracks and junctions are further appart. Its when youre in the woods trying to determine which of 3 tracks is the correct one and the map doesnt give enough detail and the resolution and screen just compounds it.
Id probably go with OpenStreetMap. Or Im planning on getting a cheap phone for bar mounting and running the os mapping app on that leaving the garmin for bike computer stuff.
I have the previous version for my Garmin Oregon and it works just fine. Mine includes the 1:25k mapping too, and will auto-zoom to that scale.
The ebay version will just be a direct (pirate) copy of the Garmin original.
Also - if you have the map card in your Garmin and connect it to a PC then Basecamp will use the mapping (you can also just copy it to a USB drive and not need to plug in your Garmin).
I had it on an older Garmin Edge. Just not enough resolution to display usefully, and the colours aren't clear for use in sunlight.
it does work on the larger screens of the Oregons and the like but on the Edges I reckon you're better off the Garmin OpenStreetMap maps.
.
I've got Talkytoaster maps running on my geocaching / walking Etrex. Much more useful than OS Maps at 1:50k as the TT maps are zoomable, and therefore easier to use in a larger scale. Tales a little while to get used to the different style.
I'm using the free version as a trial at the mo, but will stump up for the paid version (more detail) when I remember.
I still refer to an OS Map (usually on my phone, sometimes on a paper map) as I find that easier when scanning a larger area.
I'm pretty sure it'll be an illegal pirated version at that price. Someone's downloaded it off a torrent site, put it on a CD and is charging you 22.99.
You used to be able to get a Garmin bundle including the OS mapping sd card for £50 more than the GPS on it's own so £22.99 is possible. I got mine with an Edge 800 but I have to say it looks a whole lot better on the on the screen of an Edge 1030. I think most of the current Edge's don't have SD card slots so you are limited to what GPS you can use.
They definitely look pretty, but in use are utterly useless. I accidentally threw mine away when I changed the back of my Edge 1000 and didn't remove the memory card. No loss. The stock ones on the 1000 (which I think are Open Street Maps) are far better.
