Anyone know if you can take the card (containing full UK OS maps) out of a Dakota and simply place it in an 800 (ie. if I were to upgrade) and it "work"?

Yes.
The maps are locked to the card not the device.

So I wouldn't need any sort of installation cd you reckon? (Because I haven't got one...)

No.
Just put the card in the edge and select the map in the settings menu.

Hmm, I've been reading around and some sites suggest that if the maps were supplied on SD card they're locked to the card but if they were supplied on CD/DVD they're locked to the device.
I wonder if there's a way I can tell by inspecting the files on the SD card? Anyone know?
