Garmin Edge - Proximity Alerts?

I have an Edge Explore 2 & I'd like to set up an alert that will show when I'm close to a specific coordinate (I think that my old Oregon 700 did provide proximity alerts).

Can I do this on an Edge?

I've got as far as adding a custom alert, but it's only offering me the option for the alert to be triggered after a specific time or distance.

If you are creating/riding a Course, then you can create a Course Point in Connect. I've used this for the likes of water stations and checkpoints on long runs.

Thanks.

I was hoping to be able to have the alerts working for general riding around rather than following a course, but I'm not sure that this is going to be possible with the Edge.

I wonder if there's anything available on Connect IQ that might offer proximity alerts.

Yeah, the Oregon comes from the Garmin Outdoor Recreation equipment set, not the Sports & Fitness set like the Edge and Explore. They do work slightly differently. There is also the Garmin Explore app. I don't use that so there could be something in it that I'm unaware of.

I want this as well. '50m from cafe Billy Bunter' messages and the like. It is possible but sounds a faff: https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=aXociAiTXT8Pqx1hjTzPYA#:~:text=Proximity%20alerts%20are%20triggered%20by,MapSource%20or%20BaseCamp%E2%84%A2%20software.

I used POILoader a few years back with a file of all the bothies/shelters and had that on my old Oregon. I don't recall it being too difficult. I don't know if  it'll work with the Explore though?

That link looks interesting. I have Basecamp & POI Loader, but I haven't used them in ages.

The article also links to a page about enabling/disabling proximity alarms which I'm not sure the Edge has. It also talks about and alarm sounding rather that a notification being displayed but it's certainly worth explaining.

Is there anywhere to submit feature requests to Garmin? It feels a potentially useful feature that shouldn't be too hard to implement.

Garmin support forums would probably the best place to check but even assuming Garmin think it's a good idea, they (a) aren't known for quickly implementing stuff like this, (b) tend to silo certain feature types for certain types of device and (c) are extremely unlikely to add it as a feature on the (oldish) Edge Explore 2 (is it even getting firmware updates anymore??)

So, you might be better off looking at ConnectIQ apps to see whether meet your needs...
