Am i correct in thinking that the Garmin edge 205 will not display your current OS grid ref?

Yup, unless there's different software for it.

Correct - it's really a bike computer/training aid. You can get Lat/Lon though - and if you have a Nokia S60 phone, there's a Lat/Lon converter available.

thanks, that rules out that one. I'm after a cheap GPS to use with a map, so need grid read out and has the ability to take routes/waypoints from Memory map.

Any suggestions?

correct - a right pain 🙁
If you set a mark it will give you latitude and longitude which you CAN look up on a map, remembering longitude increases to the LEFT in the UK 🙁

Garmin Geko or an Etrex will do what you're after. Do a wee search on the forum for some more details, this is covered fairly frequently.
