Couldn't switch off my Garmin Edge 1000 today, on removal of the cover on it, I saw that the white rubber on the power button had split and pushed in. In my attempt to fish it out, it just crumbled away. Is it a case of back to Garmin for repair, or has anyone found a working alternative?
Nope but it seems a common problem. I switch mine on by sticking a pen in to press the button then taping over the hole during the ride. Previously I've put a piece of plastic in and then wrapped a cut up piece of inner tube round but it didn't last too long. Wish I could just buy a replacement case for a sensible price 🙁
Actually, I'm tempted to wire in an external switch and then just silicon up the hole. That would work
Mine's crumbling too - I'd like to hear if anyone's got an answer to this.
So far the only thing I've found is £42 which seems a bit steep. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Rubber-Power-button-keypad-part-for-Garmin-Edge-1000-/284051920674
The charge port's going wobbly on mine too.
My 705 held out much better than the 1000. Reticent to spend another £300+ on a Garmin product.
The Micro SD slot rubber is swelling too. Can't be sunlight as mine has been in a rubber cover since new, if its got damp its been dried. But the charging port rubber is fine despite being not covered, go figure!
