I switched to the Dakota 20 (from the 705) a few months ago and have recently been getting into using a Polar HR monitor primarily for "calories burned" purposes as I am now answerable to myfitnesspal for my every mouthful and every pedal stroke...
I know the Dakota can talk to the Garmin HR straps but I don't get the impression that the Dakota itself gives much in the way of training data, ie. calories yada yada.
Anyone know how/if I could use a Dakota for these purposes? Is it necessary to use Garmin Connect (which I don't currently) perhaps?
TIA as always.
Despite having a Dakota 20 and a Garmin HR I've never bothered to link them (I also own an Edge 705). I'd imagine that you'd have to upload the Garmin file to something like Connect or Endomondo in order to get a calorie count.
However, AFAIK, the calories thus calculated are not as accurate as those obtained using Polars algorithms.
Interesting, thanks.
Only trouble with the Polar watch I have is that it's Mrs M's ladies' specific one (black in colour, I hasten to add) which is a bit tight on my wrist!!
