Garmin Connect & OS Maps not playing

Evening, I'm having some trouble with these apps. I tend to create my routes on OS maps then transfer them to Garmin as a GPX to then follow. It's been fine for ages, but recently when opening GPX files in Garmin Connect there's now an issue. When I go to save, it says "Course not available - we're having trouble retrieving a course". I can't get any further than that.

Very annoying. Anyone had similar problems or know any workarounds?

Thanks

Dan

How many courses do you have? Could there be a limit and you've hit it?
Are you doing this via the phone or computer? If you can get the .gpx file on your phone and open it, can you select Garmin Connect as app to open the file? It should add it as a course and you can then sync to your device (that assumes the issues is with the computer system though).

I raised this with os maps. There is a workaround. You have to use the browser version of garmin connect to import your course (the reverse of what it used to be when you had to use the browser version if os maps, which is no longer available, to export your maps).

I reckon it is the same issue as a few years ago in that os maps is exporting the "wrong" type of gpx (can't remember whether it was a course or a trail).

Thanks both, it looks like DickBarton has it - I just deleted all my courses in the Garmin app and it's working again. Such an obvious troubleshoot and I feel slightly stupid for not thinking of it!

Mine was a guess as I'd have thought the number of courses would either be unlimited of several hundreds - you must have many many courses saved!

Quite the opposite - maybe 15-20 at the most. Which is odd, the data size on a GPX file can't be at all large. Who knows!

I had exactly this issue with some maps pulled from MBUK pages last month. I'll try a little course purge.

I'm having the same issue. I'm brand new to both Garmin and OS Maps so wasn't sure what I was doing wrong.

This is on the laptop with both sites open in the browser. Downloading the gpx from OS and trying to load it to the Garmin just throws up an error message.

It's an ongoing problem and neither Garmin or OS have bothered to sort it out.

I have complained to both but nothing has changed. If I save the gpx file from os in an old version of Tracklogs it will then upload to Garmin connect.

I've just created a test route in OS Maps, saved it to My Drive and then opened it in Connect. Looks fine. This was all using the Android versions.

Yeah that's how I do it, create the route in OS, export to Google drive, then open from Google drive with Garmin Connect. All via apps on an android phone.

As a further test, I created a route in OS Maps, saved it, then imported it to Connect - all on my Windows 11 PC. In fact, I did it twice - once saved as a Route and once saved as a Track. Both worked OK.

I usually use OS to draw the route, either on a computer or phone then to get it to Connect I use the “Export GPX” option and select Connect as the app to share it to. This works perfectly every time as long as I have an Internet connection.

On an iPhone.
