[Closed] Garmin-compatible ride tracking app?

I suspect my requirements are massively obscure, but I figured if anyone would know, it'd be STW.

Currently I use a Garmin Forerunner for tracking my runs and rides - it's a bit fiddly to use but fairly reliable, and the Garmin Connect site that shows all your activities side by side is pretty good. And crucially, it shows all my training rides, runs etc from the last few years.

Looking at mobile tracking apps for the same purpose, I couldn't find any that supports uploads to Garmin Connect. And Garmin itself seems to offer naff all by way of apps that track using your phone's GPS - I guess because they don't want anything that competes with their various watches etc.

Is there a decent smartphone (Android) app that tracks activities and then allows upload to Garmin's site? Or is it a case of manually extracting the GPX file and uploading it that way?

Thanks!

http://www.mapmytracks.com - has an app and once uploaded can be exported - it will sync from Garmin, but won't go to Garmin.

http://www.strava.com - same as above

Endomondo - same as above

Several others, but they all crucially don't sync to Garmin.

Garmin doesn't have a mobile phone app, it relies on the actual hardware, Connect is the place it is sent to - and can be rather flaky at times.

Does Strava not sync to Garmin and vice versa?

This site does it I think but never used it

Agreed; if I were starting from scratch I probably wouldn't use Garmin, but it now has years' worth of my previous ride data etc that I've labelled up etc.

Thanks for these suggestions, will check them out!

I use tapiriikk to sync up Endomondo with Strava, it works pretty well though it can take a while ( normally up to 20 minutes ) for the sync to happen so just leave the browser open while it happens.

Finish ride, upload to connect and see which one pings my phone first connect or strava, normally within a few seconds of each other
