Hi Forum, What are the current online mapping tools people are using to create .gpx routes? It's been a while since I've imported new routes to my Etrex 30x so I'd forgotten how awful Basecamp for Mac OS is. There used to be a couple of free mapping sites out there but I've lost the bookmarks. Recommendations appreciated.

I use RideWithGPS, it suits my needs (mainly road) best; no shortage of alternatives though.

I’d forgotten how awful Basecamp for Mac OS is

The only reason I still have an old Windows laptop is for customising Garmin maps, and rest assured that Basecamp for Windows is also awful, but with the added awfulness of Windows 🙂

The Garmin forum is down (hacked) so looked at a couple of videos on youtube of how to extend routes, combine routes etc but they were using the Windows version. The Mac OS version lacks the pencil tool and also the merge/combine route option on the right click. On the Mac version if you click on the wrong tool or sometimes even cmd Z an unwanted auto-route it'll automatically start creating a new route rather than adding nodes to the one you're working on. Utterly useless.

Re: RideWithGPS and Bikehike.co.uk- brilliant. Pretty sure those were the ones I'd used previously. Thanks for the help.

I've tried bikehike, ridewithgps, justgoride, garmin connect, strava, cycle.travel, trailforks etc.

JustGoRide is my current tool of choice but they all have their merits.

Just tried Justgoride… briefly excited by the inclusion of OS maps, but it seems it won't let you drag sections to reroute them. Never understood how people can use a route planner without that feature.
