Just been on a road ride with a mate and I have both the 800 and 500, he has the Garmin touring

They all gave different total ascents, can anybody shed any light as to why?

Garmin 500 - 3885ft
Garmin 800 - 4140ft
Garmin touring - 3270ft

Ta

I would assume their barometers are all slightly different. I have a Garmin 500 and to get the same ascent on a typical route I have to 'enable' the elevation correction in garmin connect.

Strava has an "Elevation(?)" link under the total, click it and Strava will readjust your total.

found it ta

Just reading a bit into it, it seems the barometric reading on the unit is more accurate than the gps/map allegedly

Just used the elevation correction in Strava and it changes the 800 unit to 3286, which is the same as the Touring.

Just unsure which is the correct figure?

The touring does not have a barometric altimeter so strava will use the info from their map data, in my experience it is always lower than the barometric value. I would have thought the 500 & 800 would be the same, but if they haven't been acclimatised temperature wise before starting recording there can be a significant error. My son's 500 can give some pretty weird elevations for this reason
