So, had a bit of a tumble at Black Mountains over the weekend which led to my Garmin bearing the brunt and me cracking the screen with it no longer powering up.

I've been in touch with Garmin and asked about a repair but, given that the model is discontinued (and out of warranty), they have offered a "Trade In, Trade Up" option whcih gives me 30% off standard sale price on a new model.

Even with the discount, it's still a fair wedge of cash so I was wondering if there is anyone out there that repairs Garmins other than Garmin themselves.

Anyone recommend anyone?

There are some very good prime day deals on edge 520 and 820 units if you did want to upgrade. Probably cheaper than from Garmin.

I've replaced the screen in my edge 810 twice. By screen I mean the outermost plastic piece which is actually a digitiser. First time it broke due to water ingress (I think) and second time it got smashed into a rock. I've also replaced the rear case as the rear tab/mount broke. They're generally very easy to open up and replace parts. Just find what you need on ebay and figure out if it's economical to repair. A new digitiser is only £25.

I did this on an 800 - I bought a 'dead' one on Ebay and swapped the front part of the case over - it was really easy to do.

interesting to know that they don't/wont repair them anymore.

I shut mine in my boot last year, destroyed the screen.

sent it back to garmin and they replaced the screen for £90. which at the time was about 40-50 quid cheaper than a used one from ebay.

I've just got an 830. I had an 810 previously, then the 820. The 830 is what the 820 should have been. I've only used it a few times but it is so much quicker and responsive than the 820 and the screen is excellent.

See if they will do you a deal on the 530, essentially it's an 830 without the touch screen.
