My wife has a Garmin 810. Up until last week, after a ride, she plugs it into the laptop, the laptop recognizes it connected & she can download her ride onto Strava via Garmin Connect.

But now the laptop has stopped recognizing the Garmin being connected.

Additionally when its connected to the laptop it times down from 15 secs to off, then once off, turns itself back on again, & starts the 15 sec countdown to off cycle again.

Can anyone help with whats wrong with it??

Not had that one before. But every Garmin I have had had benefitted from a full factory reset every now and then.

As above, try a master reset

Update the connect software, sync and update the 810 firmware. Mine does it occasionally, this fixes it all be it on a Mac.

Does it blue tooth to a phone still? The only time I ever connect my 810 is to add map files. My garmin is sync'd straight to strava and is instant.

As above I've fixed a few with a reset.

Check the USB port is clean and dry.

Mine did this.

I just did a reset to factory settings - had to reset activity and bike profiles and layout of pages as you can imagine, but since that it's played fine.

I have also though put the garmin connect app and strava on to phone and unless I'm uploading routes I'll now Bluetooth from 810 to Garmin Connect, and the auto sync between Gc and strava.

Cheers for the replies.

I've done the factory reset but the 810 is still has the charging issue whether charging from the laptop or direct from plug adaptor.

Downloads ok via phone.

Have you tried a different USB cable and port?

Yes, that's the first thing we tried but no joy.

The cable was exactly the problem I had, its very strange that some cables work but others dont.

I'd try more cables.

Further to previous posts & solutions we're still having issues downloading to the PC.
Done a few resets.
Tried several cables.
When plugged into the PC it charges the Garmin but it can't be found on the file explorer.

Any other suggestions?

Currently uploading rides via Bluetooth to phone, but cant update Garmin software or upload routes from Strava.

What Windows version has the laptop, and is this fully up to date etc?

Mine did this too. Fixed in my case by updating the Garmin Connect software on the PC.

Mine only connects to the computer with a Blackberry Cable.

It's always been a cable issue when I've had that with my 810.

Dickie,
I had this exact problem with an 800 a couple of years ago - try this if you haven't already - sorry if the details are a little vague!

There's an option to connect a Garmin as a file store - when the Garmin is off, turn it on while pressing the left hand button on the front at the same time. If this is successful an image of a filing cabinet will appear on the screen. I think you need to keep pressing both buttons until the start up is complete.

Once I did this Explorer could 'see' the Garmin, Then turn it off and back on normally. After that mine started working OK.

Hope that helps.

tbh I was just asking about Windows incase that was an issue.

IMO there is something fundamentally weak in the GPS devices software (and PC integration) as my current 810 has given up it's Bluetooth ability again, I had constant issues with a previous Garmin and went through 3 Bryton's.

But I've never had a problem with mobiles (Nokia and then iPhone 4S and now 5).

Have you tried removing the sd card and then connecting? There may be something wrong with the cars?

If you are connecting to a computer so you can add rides to follow can you send that direct to an sd card in a sd card reader and then install into the garmin?
