Garmin 810 Auto Off?

Morning all,

Garmin 810 has starting turning itself off as follows:
Turn on and load course
Start recording
Swipe to map screen
Auto off

It only does this when I swipe onto the map screen otherwise it just continues to record as normal which isn't very helpful when I have it for following maps... Its only done this since I uploaded the recent update from Garmin Explorer which is having trouble contacting its servers at present so not much help there.

Any thoughts from the masses?

Could be a fault with the SD card if that's where your maps are. Try a different card? (Is it a genuine Garmin map you are trying to use? I heard there was possibility of some check going into the software).

Have recently downloaded the Talky Toaster maps. The card they are on is a new one so would like to think it isn't borked already although all things are possible. When the Garmin is loading up its name checks Talky Toaster maps so would appear to recognise them in some form or another at least

Is it on battery saver mode? Or did that start on the 820?

Do a factory reset and see if that fixes it?

I have an 810. Garmin Express tells me it is up to date with version 6.3. I use it with a Garmin OS 1:50k SD card or a 3rd party SD card with some Open Street Map mapping. I have just checked and both work fine when swiping to the maps. It doesn't help identify the cause of your problem but hopefully it rules out some variables.

Take the SD card out. Try going to Map View. It should just default to whatever is installed in the internal memory. That would at least rule out the SD Card and/or the TT maps.

After much dicking about it would appear that it was the .fit file that was the source of my ire. The file being used was taken from a route I had plotted in Strava and could save as a .gpx as they strangely don't provide a .fit option I had used the All Trails converter to switch from .gpx to .fit and then simply drag and dropped this into the Edge courses folder. The file must have become corrupted as when I had tried to follow it the map appeared but would then auto off and today it wouldn't load the map at all.

I tried several times to reconvert it with the same response, have done a couple of factory resets and had trawl around Google and Garmin forums with no change in the outcome. I then decided to use a Different converter and all seems to be in working order. Roll on Wednesday!

Do you need to convert from GPX to FIT? I've never done that when copying gpx files to my (admittedly older) 1000 explore or my Fenix.
Also, Garmin Connect allows you to import/export GPX files (and FIT) which makes managing courses easier - once done you can just select and upload from your phone.

Ah, I use https://fit-route.pyrites.org.uk/ too, never had an issue with it but the reason I asked about the 'pause' was I'd an older/smaller GPS I was trialling as a spare for when I did the Badger and this was the issue.

The issue might be caused by dragging the file into Courses. If you drag a GPX into Garmin/New Files, when you unplug from the desktop and re-start the unit it will automatically convert it into a course.
