My Garmin 800 has started playing up.
When I connect it to my PC everything seems to work until I try to disconnect it.
I click on the little USB icon and hit safely remove hardware.
It then flashes up a message to say it's now safe to remove the device.
The screen on the Garmin says it's still connected and when I look on the My Computer thing it also shows it's still connected.
I've done a reset on the Garmin and it's still the same.
What should I try next?

Sounds more like a pc driver issue than the Garmin at fault. Have you got the latest version of garmin express?
Any recent windows updates? Started using any new other usb devices? Can you try it in another computer?

I just unplug mine. Never use the remove hardware function.

Can you access the files like this. Thw garmin screen will show it as connnected as it will still be drawing power/charging (probably).

Just tried it on another PC and it removes ok.

Other devices remove ok on the original pc.

More worryingly the UK mapping seems to have dissapeared.
How the flip do I get that back?

Does it show on your PCM screen as two items, one the device and another as the memory card ?

Me too.

Are you using the same USB cable on both PC's?

Yep shows as two items.

OK if i can just unplug it without removing it that's fine but how do I get my UK map back?
Seems to have gone from the sd card when i look what's on it.

Tried teh Micro card in one of those adaptor things, pulgged directly into a USB port to see if teh map is there that way ?

If all else fails, OpenMtb will have maps for you.

Turns out Garmin will put the mapping back on the card for me for £30.
They recon it somehow got corrupted and my PC wiped it trying to sort it.
Still better than £200 to buy a new card from Garmin. 😯

Oh and Rick.
Thanks for the tip about open mtb.
I now have mapping for a couple of trips to Europe later in the year.

sss - here's some karma. You gave me some 29er tyres a way back for free.

I have a spare micro SD (for my 800) that you can have and it has the UK 50k OS mapping on it. Drop me an email and we can sort it out.

FWIW, you can copy the files straight from one SD to another - that's why I have a spare - I copied the files to a larger SD card so that there was also space for OSM maps (from talky toaster) so I can choose which maps to use whenever I want.

Why not try free maps first? Nothing to lose
I use these:
http://talkytoaster.co.uk/maps/
or OpenMtb as suggested above.

nemesis.
That's very kind of you. 😀
I know I've given some tyres away in the past but I have no idea who I gave them to.
EDIT.
Just looked at your email addy and remembered you now.
Tall guy at bristol bikefest. 😀

Garmin told me you couldn't do this as each card was linked to one device when you register it.
I take it that's BS then?

Email on the way to you.
