I've my road bike set-up on a turbo trainer with a Bontrager Speed & cadence senor.
Garmin 800 pairs with the sensor & gives a cadence output on the display but there's no speed reading - what's wrong?

I'm guessing somewhere I need to put the wheel circumference into the Garmin & do I need to switch of GPS or doesn't it matter?

Any help would be much appreciated.

If it works like my Edge 705 then you'll need to switch the GPS off as that will override the sensor

Create a separate bike profile for the turbo and manually enter the wheel circumference.

speed/distance readings are basically redundant on a turbo anyway, I don't display mine at all

Won't speed translate into distance (with wheel circumference input)?

TrainerRoad can turn that into a virtual power reading for a lot of makes of turbo trainer.

my edge 500 allows me to pair a "speed sensor", a "cadence sensor" or a "speed/cadence sensor". If I select cadence sensor when connecting a Garmin or a Bonty speed/cadence sensor then I will only get a cadence display on a turbo, and if on the road then the speed will be GPS derived and not as measured by the speed bit of the speed/cadence sensor.

I have this combo, and recently found Bontrager unit to be a pain. All advise above is good. Make sure paired as speed/Cadence sensor otherwise wont work.
Wheel circumference innacuracy wont stop is showing speed, and works on auto fine? I found I had to unscrew the arm adjuster screw and give contacts a good clean, reassemble & position v. close to magnet and screw back tight.
That did the trick for me. Maybe these units are bit unreliable, I have gone back to my Garmin one on turbo.

Good point, away from TR (or similar packages) I stand by my statement though

I still couldn't get the speed reading to work so sent the Bonty unit back & bought a Garmin speed/cadence unit - worked first time.

Thanks for the help with the set-up.

I just took mine of the bike and onto the turbo bike in the summer house. Works exactly the same.
