Right, I've downloaded the necessary files from Talky Toaster and if I move them to the unit memory (rather than the SD card) and rename the original (Garmin Topo) file and then change the name of the OSM file to gmapsupp.img then it works fine

Great 🙂

Two issues/questions

1. Is there any way that I can have three maps on there and it can access them all (Garmin Topo, OSM GB, OSM Ireland) so I can just choose the right file in settings->Map without me having to rename files via USB connection?

2. If I put the gmapsupp.img file in a folder named 'Garmin' on the SD card (as I think you're meant to do) rather than in the internal memory it just doesn't see it at all. What do I need to do to get it to see the SD card?

Thanks!

Oh, just found that 2. isn't really an issue. If I rename the gmapsupp.img file that was in the internal memory then name the file on the SD card gmapsupp.img it works (though still issue 1 - only that file is available)

There should be a .bat file to install them in the MapSource. Then you can use MapSource to load as many maps as you want on the the Garmin.

I have the Navigator road maps, off road maps for the UK and France, plus the contour lines as an overlay. All can be switched on/off, though for some reason when it switches on they all default to on.

clubber, you don't want to pop round and do this on my 705?

would like to get OSM on it, don't think much of the Garmin Topo.

sadly being non techie most of your OP went straight over my head 🙁

lol. it really is quite simple.

download zip file from talky toaster

open the zip file and extract to desktop or wherever

connect GPS to PC

find the Garmin same as you would if you'd plugged in a memory stick

rename any file in the Garmin folder called gmapsupp.img to gmapsupp2.img or similar

copy the downloaded file to the Garmin folder

rename that file gmapsupp.img

done 🙂

fwiw I think I'll. be using osm. it's way better than Topo in the places I'm familiar with and ride. Plus things I've added to osm are there 🙂
