I have been using a Garmin 520 Plus for the last few months, but I have had ongoing issues with the navigation crashing etc.
What is next best device to the 520 Plus, budget around £200ish. I would like something with the step by step directions feature that the 520 Plus had.

as an aside, does anyone know what's the cheapest device I can run proper os explorer maps on please?

Pretty sure I'm just going to buy a Garmin Edge 830 but I could easily be dissuaded.
Cheapest would probably be a used Garmin Dakota, Etrex, or Edge 800/810 from eBay etc. There used to be a good source for "cheap" OS cards from iOffer but I think it's closed down now.
Worth pointing out that while OS maps are the gold standard on paper, the small fuzzy Garmin screen makes them hard to take in at speed. A more modern Garmin with OSM maps or Wahoo's mapping might not be as instantly recognisable but on the move you might find them more helpful.
I haven't tried a bolt but I have got the original elemnt that I bought when my 810 kept crashing and losing all my ride data. Its been totally reliable since 2017 and never once thrown a fit. The mapping is sparse but clear to read. I'd always want to have OS maps or similar on my phone as a quick reference check.
It happily runs from a USB battery and setting up and so on using your phone is a world away from my old 810's arcane menus.
I am stuck between choosing the Garmin Edge 530 and the Wahoo Elemnt Bolt.
