Evening guys,
Want a handlebar mounted GPS, that gives live segments, elevation, distance, heartrate and also records the ride for Strava upload etc.
These are all between £200-£250 on amazon, anyone recommend one over the other?
Finally how about the Wahoo Elemnt?

I sold my 510 and got 520. I much prefer the 520, buttons are easier, maps surprisingly useful, texts on the unit are nice and it's still supported where the 510 may not get the same level of firmware updates.
I chose the 520 over other mapping units as I follow gpxs but don't need full routing.
Given up on my 510. Had two warranty replacements in under 12 months. Selling my new replacement and giving a 520 a go.
Well, unless you can find a 510 for a better price, that's out of the equation since the 810 is the same but betterer. I have a 510 and it's great, but the 810 is basically the same thing with maps and is better in every way*.
The 520 is a modern update to the 510 with better connectivity. Looks a bit more modern, too. I believe it can use maps but in a limited way. I've never used (or even seen) a 520.
I would rather have the decent mapping of the 810 than the 'social connectivity' of the 520, but I don't know if things have changed on that front.

*Yeah yeah, GLONASS big deal
I got a 520 and reasonably happy with it. My phone is still better at tracking & recording my rides and for the OS mapping, but for recording stats from HRM and speed sensor etc it works great. Also good to be able to have it on all the time to get read out of important stuff when out and about. There are better delas out there than the Amazon links. Strava live segments is OK but a bit gimmickry. I gave £220 for the 520 with HRM, Speed and Cadence sensors included from Wiggle.
Good point on that other thread about the front (bottom edge) buttons on the 520. I was thinking of buying one to replace my dying 500, but not sure if I'd get to the buttons. I've got a BarFly mount and my 500 sits very close to the stem faceplate.
K-edge mount with my 520, granted it can be a bit fiddly but only really needs using twice...start and stop...
520 is the best buy at the moment.
Happy with my 810,they finally seem to have the android app sorted so I can upload it Bluetooth which now means I forget to plug it in and charge it. Apart from that and a couple of quirks on updates all good. Live segments may make your mates want to kill you thought, that and the auto pause beep is a bit annoying.
My 510 is OK, it worked well with Strava when I had an account.
Only use it for my own reference so Connect on it's own was good enough and I preferred the privacy.
Garmin Segments have been broken for months though.
If the 510 breaks I've half considered the new Vivoactive watch rather than another Edge, especially if the wrist based HR monitoring works well and I don't have to bother with the chest strap.
I've a 510 but I don't think I'd get one if buying now unless it was significantly cheaper than the replacements, it's a four or five year old model and things move on. Not had any problems with mine.
There are still firmware updates (I got notified of one yesterday when syncing my rides from the weekend) but there will be a point at which these stop.
Thanks for replies guys, going to have a read through now 🙂
