Yesterday i put my Garmin 500 on for my ride. It powered up as normal and found hrm and satellites as usual.it showed battery at 100%. However over the next 15 mins the display faded to unreadable. When i stopped riding i stopped and reset the device. It had recorded all my data. However now the dispay is completely dead.

Is this terminal? I know Garmin do a fixed price repair scheme but i was hoping to fix it myself. Anyone had any success?

Mine did this 2 years ago.

I solved it randomly by doing a firmwear update/reinstall via garmin connect.

Works ace.

I had the opposite problem with my Etrex 30, display works, reading speed etc normally but it wasn't saving any data
Garmin Express said that it wasn't supported any more (replaced by 30x) for a firmware update. It's currently with Garmin UK...£74.40
I hope yours works out

It might be that the ribbon cable has come loose from the connector, easy fix if you have the very small torx driver needed, just a case of undo seperate the case refit the ribbon cable and pop back together making sure the seal is located before you screw it back together.
