Got a free day in the Lakes tomorrow and the forecast looks good. Can't decide where to ride. By myself and time a bit limited so thought about Grizedale - TNF + bridleways.
But then I thought I've always fancied riding Garburn Pass. Staying in Ambleside to looking on a map I could do A591 to Brockholes, Troutbeck, lanes round to near Ings, then bridleway to Kentmere, Garburn Pass, Troutbeck and Jenkin Crag.
Is this a sensible route for winter? I don't mind a bit of mud or puddles but I don't want to wade through hub deep bogs for miles. I'm hoping the ground might be frozen but if it isn't are these usually fairly all weather trails? Looking at the webcams I don't think snow will be an issue below 400m
Thanks
You will be fine Garburn rides better when iced up to fill in the holes, might aswell ride up Jenkins Down to Limefitt then up Garburn then down to Kentmere Hall then right up towards 3 rivers then bear right towards Dubbs then chose your bridleways across to Jenkins Crag cracking route 4 hours average pace
As above - definitely down to Kentmere for max fun - Jenkins Crag is good both ways but the descent to Brockhole from Troutbeck is fun too - less techie! All works well enough in winter.
Cheers everyone - much appreciated. Might see if I can persuade MrsJ to drop me or pick me up at Brockholes to avoid riding the main road.
I looked at doing the route in reverse but wasn't sure how technical and tough the descent to Kentmere is. In Grizedale Parkamoor - Nibthwaite and Breasty Haws is about my limit of gnarliness!
It's a good challenge whatever level you are. Some of my inexperienced mates have enjoyed it.
Postierich route sounds like a winner.
