Was over there on saturday for a wee blast, not quite what i was expecting, look at the literature and it makes out this is a pretty straightforward climb with a few awkward sections, so who has actually climbed this clean! you are a riding god.

It is, isn't it? Unless you did it the wrong way round?

It's a hike going up for me and the people I ride with 🙄
The downs are easy enough 😀

When it come's down to what the regular rider would clean in one go, i don't think it is a silly statement to say, only an exceptional rider with lady luck on his side would clean this. Anyone that says otherwise is a serial bullshitter...

The down is easy enough but not fantastic, if you like rubble fine, overated i say, great scenery though.

The climb from Troutbeck has eroded a lot recently, making it much more difficult.

If anyone comes on here saying it is an easy climb they need to attempt the 'new' Garburn pass! I was suprised at how much it has changed! I used to be able to ride 99% of it (with a few rests!) but it was a struggle all the way last time.

OK cammer interesting to hear that, i am not the best climber in the world, but just got the impression this climb was doable for a commited enthusiast.

I've only been up Garburn Pass from the Kentmere side once, following a mate who lead a ride and claimed it was all OK. 30 mins of pushing, carrying and swearing later, we got to the top.

Other than that, I've always done it from Troutbeck to Kentmere and the climb is doable if
a) conditions are perfect - not too wet, not too dry, no headwind
b) you're really on form
c) there aren't any walkers, horse riders, bike riders, sheep getting in the way.

I think in all my years of riding that trail, I've cleared it in one go with no stops/dabs/rests on maybe 4 occasions. Out of literally hundreds of attempts. I measure from the locked gate above Limefitt to the final gate before the descent proper starts so you need someone to open the gates in between.

It's a different trail every time what with erosion, daft attempts to rebuild or re-surface it etc. Still one of my favourite tracks and it makes a great loop from Staveley, can blat round it in <90 mins making it a good after work option.

I bagged it once a few years back (climbing up from Troutbeck) but as Cammer says its eroded a lot of late. It was by no means easy and I've tried many times since and failed at the last steep section where the worst of the erosion is. Gatesgarth climb from Sadgil, now thats a climb ;D

It's more fun in a Land Rover 90.
