I want to be able to plan a route in Tracklogs and export a file to my Garmin 25. Sounds simple?
However:
Tracklogs does not export to the Garmin 25 directly cos it will only accept FIT files and that's not an export option for Tracklogs.
So, I have to use Garmin Connect/Express to do the syncing.
However, to import the GPX into Connect I have to upload it from the Activity screen, which then auto syncs it to Strava even though I've not even ridden it yet!!
Furthermore, Connect/Express will not sync the Tracklogs generated GPX version of the route without 'editing' it within Connect first. Oddly I have to open the route and click 'edit' then save it as a course without modification otherwise the sync fails.
I've tried a number of online GPS format converters but couldn't find one that will export FIT.
Has anyone had any experience of the above? I've checked all are at their latest version and everything is up to date.
All I want to do is create a route, sync it to the Garmin, ride it, then upload it to Strava.
Create route save as gpx and pop it in new files folder, ride route and upload to strava as normal.
I think the Garmin 25 only supports FIT files.
This might be able to convert from GPX to FIT format (and its free):

Unfortunately the Garmin 25 doesn't support this option. You can see the NEWFILES folder and it will let you drag and drop a GPX file into it, however it doesn't show up as a course on the device. (also when you reconnect it to the PC the folder is empty again!)

Thanks BB but it doesn't support FIT export, only import 🙁
Connect has a separate section called Courses which are the routes that get synced to the device, if you use Express that is. However there's no import for Courses, but you can import to Activities and then use one of the menus for that activity to save it as a course. It will however have synced to Strava if you have Strava connected. You could just delete it after it's created the course.
Or...
Just use Garmin Basecamp - http://www.garmin.com/en-GB/shop/downloads/basecamp
You can import GPX, FIT etc, mess with the route if you like and then connect the Garmin to the PC and tell it to send to the device. You don't have to go anywhere near Connect or Express.
Thanks deadkenny, I'll try give Basecamp a go.
Although, if Tracklogs sorted themselves out and allowed FIT exports I could do it directly from the mapping program.

So, I have to use Garmin Connect/Express to do the syncing.
you have my sympathy. Was going to suggest Basecamp
Just a quick follow up.
Basecamp didn't work for me either, it showed the Garmin device in the 'file manager' style list on the left hand side, however when I asked it to 'send to device' the device list pop up box was empty?!
GPSies seems to have worked and it created a FIT file.
I then simply copied it to the Garmin's course folder in Windows Explorer. The course looked ok when I checked the map view on the device but I've not tried to navigate using it yet.
What a palava!
I think I might have had issues with Basecamp seeing the device, but you can save the route as a FIT and dump it into the course folder as you have.
Have to admit I've not tried navigating with the Garmin. I'm a bit put off as to whether it will also track at the same time. I've seen reports of bugs where it can lose the ride while navigating, but it's specific firmware and devices with issues. Plus my Garmin doesn't have maps anyway so I only get a breadcrumb trail to follow.
What I have used though is segments. Used it to load up a particular course but goes in the segments folder and as soon as I get to the segment while recording a ride it automatically shows the segment. Can't easily navigate with it but if you know the trail it's nice to keep track of the segment. This has been expanded recently to add support for Strava segments with latest firmware, but you need to pay for Strava premium, and latest firmware again has all kinds of nasty bugs from reports I've seen.
