I recently took advantage of a psa on Giro Source Mips helmets.. £119 down to £37! The problem is that with my odd shaped head and the bright red colour I got I now look exactly like a Goomba from Mario. It is a very comfy fit and does appear to offer decent protection but in this instance should form take precedence over function?

Apparently it's Toad not Goomba. I don't think that's any better.

I would have thought that with helmets function should definitely be the primary consideration.

i occasionally find a helmet that fits well, is comfy and i think makes me look ok.

Then i will see a pic from an angle i cant see (so side or rear profile) and i think i look like a nob.

yet all my buddies have helmets that look at worst OK, but generally all good. From my perspective.

Anywho.... i would take fit and comfort over form.

Plus you probably dont look as much of a Mario character as you think you do.

Failing that, go buy the same helmet in black or white.

If you're struggling with it and haven't used it, assuming it was from the Evans sale they also have the Bontrager Rally Wavecell down from £129 to £39 in black. It and Giro are the only helmets that fit my head so the shape must be similar.

Seeing as you cant see your own head when riding I'd use it. I always buy helmets in bright colours anyway, helps with being seen when on the road and helps my mates spot me when I have fallen off and rolled down a hill - This has happened to me on more than 1 occasion 🙂

Or, for the fashion concious-

I'd buy another for myself if mine weren't only 6 months old.

I'm all about function over form so if it fits well just use it. I'm also not bothered what people think I look like...flattish And unfit it makes absolutely no odds to me what people think.

Red was extra cheap. Tracey flagged it.

If the helmet fits - it fits... I don't give two hoots what it looks like. This is why helmets should only ever be bought in a shop without mirrors.

Random: Hey bubs, you look like one of those Mario mushrooms in that helmet, ha, ha....

bubs: Yeah but I saved £82 and that paid for a night in a hotel with your mum!

It’s a bike helmet, just accept you look a twonk in it (like everyone else) and carry on. They’re all big and mushroom shaped nowadays. The days of slim fitting helmets died when companies learnt how to make lids that actually absorb the impact.
