Looking for
about 120mm travel both ends will go up to 130 rear / 140 front,
ideally 1x10 or 1x11 gearing
prefer shimano brakes, not avids
I'm 5 10, so medium, or some bikes ok in large, but 18"-19"
Not too heavy
More for all day riding / fast XC than enduro / AM

current shortlist:
rocky mountain instinct 950 BC - anyone ridden one?
on one codeine, seems good on paper
Kona hei hei deluxe, less travel bit worried about mud clearance

not Giant (I don't know why... just don't like them) or Specialized - had lots of them before and time for a change

any other good offers about, what else should I consider.
for some reason I am very tempted by the rocky mountain, even if it's a little on the heavy side

Only experience of those models is the codeine. Absolutely love it. Pike is awesome as is the CCDB air. 32lbs for the large with pedals and the original x01 spec though I'd take 1×10 and an expander over that and x0 rear hub every time.
Faster up than I expected and a riot down. It is very very good at monster trucking over everything and handles tight and twisty incredibly well too.
Mud clearance is good, though a 2.35 hans Dampf gets a bit snug with my bullying. 2.25 smorgasbord had loads of room

Medium Trek Fuel at Leisure Lakes heavily reduced. Downsides are the fork and triple chainset. Maybe a bit steep and long chainstays but great frame and suspension design.

I had the same requirements and went for this https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/bikes/bike-detail.html?b=3874

More than 2k but the spec is epic (I have ordered a XT single ring for it), should be here in a week or so so will report back when it does.

"rocky mountain instinct 950 BC - anyone ridden one?"

Yes, got one about 3 months ago. Spent about 6 months deliberating brands/bikes and settled on this. More than happy. I'm also 5'10" and went for a medium.

I assume you know of - http://www.rockymountainuk.com/collections/instinct/products/2015-rocky-mountain-instinct-950-bc-edition

That said, if those Yeti's posted above had been the price they are now when I was choosing I'd have probably gone that direction instead.

2015 Camber Evo?

[img] [/img]
[img] [/img]

I LOVE this bike. It's low, slack, fast as f***. and It loves rocky, rooty, fast flowing trails. The only thing i would upgrade is the fork, because i want to be able to go full chat over EVERYTHING, but you can put bottomless tokens in it which i've done but yet to try. It's a very, very fast and efficient climber.

You are in luck - I paid £2000 for mine 6 months ago, but you can get one in the sale now for £1400 and that would allow you to make a few changes and still have money left over. I have only added a dropper post.

There is a good MBR review and walk through video HERE

Just to echo Bomberman above - the Evo is a quality bike. And yes, do all the upgrades he suggests - Better Fork CHECK; Dropper CHECK; shorter stem CHECK; 1 x Tansmission CHECK

Great for trail centres and local XC style wood blasts.

Good to have a Radon Slide on your shortlist. Top spec for the money and excellent bikes. I've had one for nine months.

http://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/radon-slide-130-29-9.0-464005/wg_id-7261

They are barely known in the UK (I've never seen another one out on the trails) but came top of a comparative test of 15 bikes in Germany - beating the Canyon equivalent. Very popular in Germany. Unlike most direct marketing firms you can have one in a week.

It's a 2x11 but you can easily convert to 1x11 with some 3.5 mm chainring spacers and a narrow wide chainring of your choice.

I was eyeing up a camber, but in the end built up a bike for £1,000 around a £600 f&f s/h Nerve.

A nerve direct from canyon is astounding vfm assuming you get the order fulfilled without hassles.

Only managed a couple of rides on my RM 950 Instinct BC so far, but seems to pedal climb and descend well. Basic spec is good. Tubelessed the wheels with Stans 25mm tape, changed the grips and will change the dropper to a reverb when funds allow, but a great bike and very adaptable with the ride 9 system.

This crept under my radar, and I sell the things!

New "mid season" model brought out last weekend... Already in stock at the warehouse apparently, so can be ordered at your local dealer.
