Mate needs a new bike... He's a general mincer like all of us, odd trip out to Afan, BPW maybe, but mostly just local trails and generic riding. Not much in the way of air, but aspiring to improve on that side.

He's been on a T-130 for 4+ years but that recently went missing...

So is on the lookout for a new trailsy based bike.

This Trek is currently winning the debate for me .... but what you have ?

I don't think he'd get on with Status, he tried my lads one in an S3 and felt the front wheel was in a different postcode. Bit wandery.

Hence me thinking the Trek would be a bit more conservative and generic

Not sure if this is legit? Seems like a good buy though?

Seller is into his outdoor stuff looking at their marketplace history.

Being sold by a good friend of mine. I can vouch for the lack of use it's had:

Not south of England but he's willing to post.

How about a Trance? (I have no affiliation with the vendor, but I have often perused their site looking for bargains)

I’d be inclined to get a Sonder Evol slx and slightly stretch the budget. The deore one has a Rockshox 35 which isn’t as good as the Yari on the NX Eagle or SLX models.

The Vitus Mythique is well in budget but out of stock. Vitus Escarpe a bit burlier but again either out of stock or out of budget.

The Vitus mythique, would be great for what your mate needs. Just make sure it's the top spec one, solid parts!
Very capable ride

Bought this. Collected tonight, barely a single mark on it, may as well be brand new

@weeksy

Sonder Evol or Cortex?

Sell me on them, why?

My Evol has been great fun in the Peak District and I finished a long day not feeling beaten up.

Yet I took it to Thetford a few weeks ago and set a few personal bests compared to 10 years ago when I used to race XC there!

It's a very capable bike without being a tank around milder or swoopier trails.

I guess if your mate is more XC biased try a cortex, if he wants a bit more skill compensation (like me! 🤣) then go Evol.

As Sonder build them all up to order then they can be flexible on spec/budget.
