Just taken delivery of a 7iDP full face helmet. Got it as it was cheap in Chain Reaction sale and OH thinks I should have a full face helmet. Now I know they are supposed to be a snug fit, but just how tight should they be? This was the largest they had and while it does fit, my head feels a bit under pressure in it. Should it be like that?

Well the rule of thumb (for me) is that when you hold the chin bar and move it side to side your whole head should move, not just the helmet and it shouldn't feel uncomfortable, like it's pressing in above your forehead or side of head \ cheeks. Ask yourself if you could wear it all day comfortably. If not, then it's too small.

Cheers for that @feed I suspect the fit is fine and it's just me not being used to so much close contact coverage on my head. I tried the side to side test and at first thought there was a little bit of movement until I realised it was actually my skin moving around my skull a bit 🙂 There are no obvious pressure points just a very close/snug feeling. The layer of soft foam inside the dome is quite thin and my first impression was that it was fully compressed against the inner core. But having pressed the helmet in all directions against my head I realise that I can compress it even further so I guess it must be ok? Could I wear it comfortably all day.....I could if I had to but initial feelings are that I wouldn't want to.

Test it at home: wear it all evening, or all day if you WFH. I’ve never done that, oh no 😀

It took me a while to get used to full face helmets, a slight feeling of claustrophobia used to set in. Soo  got used to it, although it's been a few months and I know the first time I put one on again I'll get a similar sensation, though after a few minutes it passes now.

My take on it is they should be snug but not painful.

Well nobody would actually "want" to 🙂
You don't see many people sitting in an uplift van or ski lift with their helmet on, apart from maybe on a very cold or wet day.

Oh, and the padding tends to compress a bit after a few wears.

If I ever need to buy a helmet, I make sure I've recently had a haircut.

Motorcyclist for decades and always wanted a helmet that was tight, very tight - consequently I'm use to them.

Another test is to undo the chinstrap, shake your head from sinde to side and front to back.
The helmet should move with your head, not around it.

Defo no movement when shaking head. Don't need a haircut, I'm shaved bald!
